Tour "A"   USS North Carolina BB-55 Tuesday September 16 Battleship North Caolina participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II, earning 15 battle stars. This authentically restored National Historic Landmark proudly serves as her State's World War II Memorial to the 11,000+ North Carolinians who made the ultimate sacrifice.Moored across from historic downtown Wilmington, the Battleship welcomes visitors daily. Plot your own course as you explore nine levels, climb inside gun turrets, marvel at early computers, and see where the crew ate, slept, and worked. Crew stories throughout the ship introduce you to the 2,000 young men who called the North Carolina home. Encircling the ship, a walkway provides an opportunity to appreciate her majesty and power. Wednesday September 17 Brookgreen Gardens is the floral jewel of South Carolina. Located north of Charleston and south of Myrtle Beach on South Carolina's Hammock Coast, the 9,127- acre property preserves this historic site's natural and cultivated landscape. Live Oak Allee is comprised 259-year-old Oak trees that were planted in the early 1700s. The Carolina Terrace Garden has a spectacular array of perennials, roses, shrubs, and mature trees. The Palmetto Garden, named for South Carolina's state tree was completed in 1950. The Fountain of the Muses Garden displays the sculpture of the same name. The Brookgreen sculpture collection contains over 2,000 works by 430 artists within a garden setting. Indoor galleries present exhibits of smaller sculptures, as well as paintings, etchings, and other artworks by internationally renowned artists. The Lowcountry Zoo has been an important element of the mission for Brookgreen Gardens since its inception. All of the native animals in the Lowcountry Zoo were either bred and raised in captivity or have sustained a major disability due to injury. In either case, these animals could not survive in the wild. Barefoot Queen is located at Barefoot Marina in North Myrtle Beach and is a 70 ft. authentic wooden riverboat featuring two heated/cooled interior decks and three outdoor deck spaces to enjoy fresh air. On board entertainment and narration are also included on each cruise. As we cruise the Intracoastal Waterway and enjoy the scenery. Beverages and cocktails will be available for purchase. Tour "D"   Murrels Inlet Saltwater Marsh Tour Thursday September 18 Explore Murrells Inlet and its beautiful saltwater marsh estuary aboard the 54' pontoon boat, The Explorer. Enjoy the sight and sounds as we tour the tranquil waters, bird watching and observing the underwater sea life with a naturalist. While on the 2-hour tour, participate in a live demonstration that includes local crabs and pulling a sample dredge from the bottom of the creek bed directly into the touch tank for all to observe. The captain will bring the boat ashore on a local beach so you can disembark and walk the beach and dune area searching for local treasures and shells. The Explorer is a United States Coast Guard Certified and Inspected vessel and does have a restroom.
